Question Words
疑問詞（question words）はWh-疑問詞とも呼ばれます。What（何）、Who（だれ）、Where（どこ）、When（いつ）、Why（なぜ）、How（どのように）があります。Yes/No疑問文とはちがい、くわしい情報をたずねる疑問文です。日本語では疑問詞を文の途中に入れますが、英語では文の最初に置きます。
What（何）と Who（だれ）
Whatはもの・ことについてたずねるとき、Whoは人についてたずねるときに使います。WhatとWhoは文の最初に置きます。Whoが主語になるときはdo/doesは不要です。

Whoが主語のときはdo/doesは不要です！「Who likes pizza?」のように直接聞けます。「Who does like pizza?」とは言いません。
Where（どこ）と When（いつ）
Whereは場所をたずねるとき、Whenは時間をたずねるときに使います。日本語の「どこ」と「いつ」にあたります。

Why（なぜ）と Because（なぜなら）
Whyは理由をたずねるときに使います。Whyで聞かれたらBecause（なぜなら）で答えます。Becauseの後ろには主語＋動詞のある完全な文を置きます。
Why + V(be/do/does) + S + ... ? → Because + S + V + ...
Why are you sad?
あなたはなぜ悲しいのですか？
Why do you study English? — Because I want to travel.
あなたはなぜ英語を勉強するのですか？ — 旅行がしたいからです。
Why is she crying? — Because she lost her toy.
彼女はなぜ泣いているのですか？ — おもちゃをなくしたからです。
Why does he wake up early? — Because he has practice.
彼はなぜ早起きするのですか？ — 練習があるからです。
Why don't you like spiders? — Because they are scary.
あなたはなぜクモが嫌いなのですか？ — こわいからです。
Why are they late? — Because the bus was delayed.
彼らはなぜ遅刻したのですか？ — バスが遅れたからです。
Why do you like this book? — Because it is fun.
あなたはなぜこの本が好きなのですか？ — おもしろいからです。
Whyで聞かれたらBecauseで答えましょう。Becauseの後ろには完全な文（主語＋動詞＋...）を書きます。
How（どのように）
Howは方法・手段・状態をたずねるときに使います。「どうやって」「どのように」という意味です。How are you?（お元気ですか？）は毎日使うもっとも大切なHow疑問文です。

お元気ですか？（調子はどうですか？）

How do you say 'thank you' in Japanese?
「thank you」は日本語でどう言いますか？
How is your mother? — She is fine, thank you.
お母さんはお元気ですか？ — 元気です、ありがとう。
How are you?と聞かれたら「I'm fine, thank you. And you?」と答えましょう。これはいちばん大切な英語のあいさつです！
How + 形容詞 (How old / How many / How much / How long)
Howを形容詞と組み合わせて、量や程度をたずねることができます。How old（何歳）、How many（いくつ・数えられるもの）、How much（いくら・数えられないもの/値段）、How long（どのくらい長い/時間）などがあります。

How manyは数えられる名詞（books, cats）に使い、How muchは数えられない名詞（water, money）や値段に使います！

6つの疑問詞をまとめて覚えましょう。疑問詞は文の最初に置き、その後にbe/do/does動詞を置きます。
What is your hobby? — My hobby is reading.
あなたの趣味は何ですか？ — 私の趣味は読書です。
Who teaches English? — Mr. Smith teaches English.
だれが英語を教えていますか？ — スミス先生が教えています。
Where does she live? — She lives in Osaka.
彼女はどこに住んでいますか？ — 大阪に住んでいます。
When do you go to bed? — I go to bed at 9 p.m.
あなたはいつ寝ますか？ — 夜9時に寝ます。
Why do you like cats? — Because they are cute.
あなたはなぜねこが好きですか？ — かわいいからです。

日本語と英語の疑問詞のちがい
- ●日本語では疑問詞を文の途中に入れます（「あなたは何を食べますか？」）。英語では文の最初に置きます（「What do you eat?」）。
- ●英語では疑問詞の後にbe/do/does動詞を置きます。日本語ではこのような助動詞は不要です。
- ●Whoが主語のときはdo/doesは不要です（「Who likes pizza?」）。目的語のときは必要です（「Who do you like?」）。
- ●Howを形容詞と組み合わせて量をたずねられます（How old, How many, How much）。日本語では「何歳」「いくつ」「いくら」とそれぞれ別の言い方をします。
- ●Whyで聞かれたらBecauseで答えます。日本語では「〜から」「〜ので」で答えます。
- ●How many（数えられるもの）とHow much（数えられないもの）を区別します。日本語でも「いくつ」と「どのくらい」を使い分けます。
