పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలు అంటే ప్రశ్నను మరో వాక్యంలో భాగంగా చెప్పడం. 'స్టేషన్ ఎక్కడ ఉంది?' అనేది ప్రత్యక్ష ప్రశ్న. 'స్టేషన్ ఎక్కడ ఉందో మీకు తెలుసా?' అనేది పరోక్ష ప్రశ్న. ఆంగ్లంలో పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలో పద క్రమం మారుతుంది — ప్రశ్న భాగంలో S + V క్రమం వస్తుంది, V + S కాదు. పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలు మరింత మర్యాదగా వినిపిస్తాయి.

ప్రత్యక్ష ప్రశ్న: 'Where is the station?' పరోక్ష ప్రశ్న: 'Do you know where the station is?' పరోక్ష భాగంలో 'where the station is' (S+V క్రమం), 'where is the station' (V+S క్రమం) కాదు.

పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలో పద క్రమం మారుతుంది! 'Where is the station?' → 'where the station is' (is చివరకు వెళ్తుంది). do/does కూడా తొలగించబడుతుంది: 'When does it start?' → 'when it starts'.
if/whether తో పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలు
Yes/No ప్రశ్నలను పరోక్షంగా చెప్పేటప్పుడు if లేదా whether వాడతారు. 'Is he a teacher?' → 'Do you know if he is a teacher?'

if మరియు whether దాదాపు ఒకే అర్థం. 'I wonder if...' మరియు 'I wonder whether...' రెండూ సరే. whether మరింత formal.
తెలుగు మరియు ఆంగ్లం తేడాలు
- ●తెలుగులో 'ఎక్కడ ఉందో' అని '-ో' చేరిస్తే పరోక్ష ప్రశ్న అవుతుంది. ఆంగ్లంలో పద క్రమం మారుతుంది (V+S → S+V).
- ●తెలుగులో పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలో పద క్రమం మారదు. ఆంగ్లంలో 'Where is the station?' → 'where the station is' గా మారుతుంది.
- ●తెలుగు '-ో' = ఆంగ్ల if/whether. 'వస్తుందో' = 'if she is coming'.
- ●తెలుగులో ప్రత్యక్ష/పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నల మర్యాద తేడా తక్కువ. ఆంగ్లంలో పరోక్ష ప్రశ్నలు (Do you know where...?) ప్రత్యక్ష ప్రశ్నల (Where is...?) కంటే చాలా మర్యాదగా ఉంటాయి.
