間接疑問文
Indirect Questions
間接疑問文とは、疑問文がほかの文の中に入っている文です。たとえば「Where does he live?」（彼はどこに住んでいますか？）を「I know where he lives.」（私は彼がどこに住んでいるか知っています）のように文の一部にします。ポイントは語順が「疑問詞＋主語＋動詞」の平叙文の語順に変わることです。
間接疑問文とは？ — 語順の変化
直接疑問文では「疑問詞＋助動詞＋主語＋動詞」の語順ですが、間接疑問文では「疑問詞＋主語＋動詞」の平叙文の語順になります。do/does/did は消えて、動詞が主語に合わせた形に戻ります。これが間接疑問文の最大のポイントです。
I know / tell me / wonder + 疑問詞 + S + V
Where does he live? → I know where he lives.
彼はどこに住んでいますか？ → 私は彼がどこに住んでいるか知っている。
What time is it? → Do you know what time it is?
何時ですか？ → 何時か知っていますか？
When did she come? → Tell me when she came.
彼女はいつ来ましたか？ → 彼女がいつ来たか教えて。
How old is he? → I don't know how old he is.
彼は何歳ですか？ → 彼が何歳か知りません。

最重要ポイント：間接疑問文では do/does/did が消えます！「Where does he live?」→「where he lives」（does が消えて live に s が付く）。
what / who / which の間接疑問
what（何）、who（誰）、which（どちら）を使った間接疑問文です。特に注意が必要なのは、who/what が主語の場合は語順が変わらないことです。
Do you know what this is?
これが何か知っていますか？
I don't know who he is.
彼が誰か知りません。
Tell me which book you want.
どの本が欲しいか教えて。
I know who broke the window.
誰が窓を割ったか知っている。（who が主語→語順変わらない）
I wonder what happened.
何が起きたのかな。（what が主語→語順変わらない）
Do you know what she said?
彼女が何と言ったか知っていますか？
who/what が主語のときは語順が変わりません。「Who broke the window?」→「I know who broke the window.」（そのまま）。「What did she say?」→「I know what she said.」（did が消える）。
where / when / why / how の間接疑問
場所（where）、時間（when）、理由（why）、方法（how）を使った間接疑問文です。これらの疑問詞は常に副詞の役割なので、後ろは必ず S＋V の語順になります。
I don't know where she went.
彼女がどこに行ったか知りません。
Tell me when you will arrive.
いつ到着するか教えて。
I wonder why he was absent.
なぜ彼が休んだのかな。
Can you tell me how I can get to the station?
駅への行き方を教えてもらえますか？
Do you know how many students are in this class?
このクラスに何人の生徒がいるか知っていますか？
I don't remember where I put my key.
鍵をどこに置いたか覚えていません。
if / whether の間接疑問（Yes/No疑問文の埋め込み）
Yes/No で答える疑問文を間接疑問にするときは、疑問詞の代わりに if または whether（〜かどうか）を使います。語順はやはり S＋V の平叙文語順です。
I wonder / I don't know + if/whether + S + V
Is he a teacher? → I don't know if he is a teacher.
彼は先生ですか？ → 彼が先生かどうか知りません。
Will she come tomorrow? → I wonder if she will come tomorrow.
彼女は明日来ますか？ → 彼女が明日来るかどうかなぁ。
Does he like cats? → I don't know whether he likes cats.
彼は猫が好きですか？ → 彼が猫が好きかどうか知りません。
Can she swim? → Tell me if she can swim.
彼女は泳げますか？ → 彼女が泳げるかどうか教えて。
Did he pass the test? → I wonder whether he passed the test.
彼はテストに受かりましたか？ → 彼がテストに受かったかどうかなぁ。
if と whether はほぼ同じ意味ですが、「whether or not」（〜かどうか）の形は if では使えません。また、文頭に置く場合は whether を使います。
間接疑問文でよくある間違い
間接疑問文では語順の間違いが最も多いです。「I know where does he live.」は間違いで、正しくは「I know where he lives.」です。do/does/did が消えることを忘れないようにしましょう。
✗ I know where does he live.
→ ✓ I know where he lives.（does が消える）
✗ Tell me what is this.
→ ✓ Tell me what this is.（語順が平叙文に）
✗ I don't know when did she come.
→ ✓ I don't know when she came.（did が消え、come→came）
✗ Do you know how much does it cost?
→ ✓ Do you know how much it costs?（does が消える）
間接疑問文を作るときの3ステップ：①疑問詞はそのまま ②do/does/did を消す ③動詞を主語に合わせた形に戻す。この3つを覚えれば間違えません！
日本語との比較
- ●日本語は「彼がどこに住んでいるか知っている」で語順が変わりませんが、英語は「where does he live?」→「where he lives」と語順が変わります。
- ●日本語の「〜かどうか」は英語の if/whether にあたります。
- ●日本語は疑問文でも平叙文でも語順が同じ（SOV）ですが、英語は直接疑問（疑問詞＋V＋S）と間接疑問（疑問詞＋S＋V）で語順が違います。
- ●「I wonder 〜」は日本語の「〜かなぁ」にあたる独り言風の表現です。
