too...to / enough to
too...to は「〜すぎて…できない」、enough to は「十分〜なので…できる」という意味の重要構文です。不定詞（to V）と組み合わせて使います。so...that に書き換えられることも多く、テストでの出題頻度がとても高い文法です。語順の間違いに注意しながら、しっかりマスターしましょう。
too + 形容詞/副詞 + to V — 「〜すぎて…できない」
too は「〜すぎる」という意味で、後ろに to V を続けると「〜すぎて…できない」という否定的な意味になります。日本語では「できない」と言いますが、英語では not を使いません。
S + be + too + 形容詞 + to + V
This bag is too heavy to carry.
このカバンは重すぎて運べない。
He is too young to drive.
彼は若すぎて運転できない。
It's too dark to read.
暗すぎて読めない。
She spoke too fast to understand.
彼女は速すぎて理解できなかった。
too...to には「できない」の意味が含まれています。「too heavy to not carry」のように not を入れないでください。
too...for + 人 + to V — 「（人にとって）〜すぎて」
to V の主語が文の主語と異なる場合、for + 人 を入れて「誰にとって」かを明示します。
S + be + too + 形容詞 + for + 人 + to + V
This question is too difficult for me to answer.
この質問は私にとって難しすぎて答えられない。
The movie is too scary for children to watch.
その映画は子どもが見るには怖すぎる。
for + 人 は too と to の間に入れます。文末に置かないように注意。
形容詞 + enough + to V — 「十分〜なので…できる」
enough は「十分に」という意味で、形容詞の後ろに置きます。enough to V で「十分〜なので…できる」という肯定的な意味になります。too...to の反対です。
S + be + 形容詞 + enough + to + V
He is old enough to drive.
彼は運転できる年齢だ（十分な年齢だ）。
She is tall enough to reach the shelf.
彼女は棚に届くほど背が高い。
This room is big enough for ten people.
この部屋は10人には十分な広さだ。
enough の語順に注意！形容詞の後ろに enough を置きます。「enough old」は間違い、「old enough」が正解。
so...that との書き換え
too...to は so...that...can't に、enough to は so...that...can に書き換えることができます。入試やテストで頻出の書き換え問題です。
too...to: This box is too heavy to lift.
この箱は重すぎて持ち上げられない。
so...that: This box is so heavy that I can't lift it.
この箱はとても重いので持ち上げられない。

書き換えのポイント：so...that に書き換えると、主語と目的語（it）が必要になることがあります。too heavy to lift → so heavy that I can't lift it。
日本語との比較
- ●日本語の「〜すぎて…できない」は英語の too...to にそのまま対応しますが、英語では not を使わない点に注意
- ●日本語の「十分〜なので…できる」は enough to に対応します。語順が「形容詞 + enough」なのが日本語と違います
- ●日本語では「重すぎて持てない」と否定を明示しますが、英語の too...to は否定の意味が暗黙に含まれています
- ●「〜するには十分だ」という言い方は日本語でも英語でも似ていますが、enough の位置（形容詞の後ろ）に注意
