will と would（意志・丁寧）
Will / Would
will は「〜するでしょう」（未来）や「〜します」（意志）を表す最も基本的な助動詞の一つです。would は will の過去形ですが、丁寧な表現（Would you 〜?）や過去の習慣（〜したものだ）にも使います。will と be going to の使い分けも重要なポイントです。
will の未来 — 〜するでしょう
will は未来のことを予測するときに使います。「〜するでしょう」「〜だろう」というニュアンスです。
S + will + 動詞の原形
It will be sunny tomorrow.
明日は晴れるでしょう。
She will be fifteen next month.
彼女は来月15歳になる。
They will arrive at six o'clock.
彼らは6時に到着するだろう。
It won't rain today.
今日は雨は降らないだろう。
will の意志 — 〜します
will はその場で決めた意志や決意を表すこともあります。「よし、〜しよう」「〜するよ」というニュアンスです。
I will help you.
手伝うよ。（その場で決めた）
I won't give up!
あきらめないぞ！
I'll call you later.
後で電話するね。
I'll have the pasta, please.
パスタにします。（レストランで注文）
OK, I'll do it.
わかった、やるよ。
「I'll have 〜」はレストランで注文するときの定番フレーズです。メニューを見てその場で決めるので will を使います。
Will you 〜? — 依頼
Will you 〜? は「〜してくれますか？」と依頼する表現です。Would you 〜? のほうが丁寧です。
Will you open the window?
窓を開けてくれますか？
Will you help me with my homework?
宿題を手伝ってくれますか？
Will you pass me the salt?
塩を取ってくれますか？
Won't you join us?
一緒にどうですか？（否定疑問＝誘い）
would の丁寧表現
would は will の丁寧バージョンです。Would you 〜?（〜していただけますか？）や I would like 〜（〜がほしいのですが）はとても丁寧な表現です。
Would you open the door, please?
ドアを開けていただけますか？
I would like a cup of coffee.
コーヒーを一杯いただきたいのですが。
Would you like some tea?
お茶はいかがですか？
I'd like to visit Paris someday.
いつかパリを訪れたいです。

「I'd like 〜」は「I would like」の短縮形で、「I want」より丁寧です。お店やレストランで使いましょう。
would — 過去の習慣
would は「よく〜したものだ」と過去の習慣を懐かしく振り返る表現にも使います。used to と似ていますが、would は動作動詞（play, go, eat等）にしか使えません。
We would often play in this park as children.
子どものころ、よくこの公園で遊んだものだ。
My grandmother would tell us stories every night.
祖母は毎晩私たちに物語を聞かせてくれたものだ。
He would always arrive early.
彼はいつも早く到着したものだ。
We would go fishing every summer.
毎年夏に釣りに行ったものだ。

would は状態動詞（live, have, know, like等）には使えません。「I would live in Tokyo.」は不自然。この場合は「I used to live in Tokyo.」を使います。
日本語との比較
- ●日本語の「〜するでしょう」「〜だろう」は英語の will にあたります。
- ●日本語の「〜していただけますか」は Would you 〜? にあたり、「〜してくれますか」は Will you 〜? にあたります。
- ●日本語の「〜したいのですが」は I would like 〜 にあたります。I want 〜 より丁寧です。
- ●日本語の「よく〜したものだ」は would + 動詞 にあたります。ただし動作動詞のみに使えるという制限は日本語にはありません。
