បរិយាកាស (subjunctive mood) គឺជារបៀបនិយាយអំពីស្ថានភាពដែលមិនពិត ឬមិនទំនងកើតឡើង។ Second conditional (If + past, would + V) ប្រើសម្រាប់ស្ថានភាពដែលមិនពិតក្នុងពេលបច្ចុប្បន្ន។ Third conditional (If + had V3, would have V3) ប្រើសម្រាប់ស្ថានភាពដែលមិនពិតក្នុងអតីតកាល។ I wish ... ប្រើដើម្បីបង្ហាញបំណងចង់បានដែលមិនអាចកើតឡើង។
Second Conditional — «បើ...នឹង...» (មិនពិតក្នុងបច្ចុប្បន្ន)
Second conditional ប្រើនៅពេលយើងនិយាយអំពីស្ថានភាពដែលមិនពិតឬមិនទំនង ដូចជា «បើខ្ញុំជាអ្នក...» ឬ «បើខ្ញុំមានលុយច្រើន...»។ If clause ប្រើអតីតកាល (past tense) ប៉ុន្តែអត្ថន័យជាបច្ចុប្បន្ន។ be ប្រើ were សម្រាប់ប្រធានទាំងអស់។

Third Conditional — «បើ...នឹង...» (មិនពិតក្នុងអតីតកាល)
Third conditional ប្រើនៅពេលយើងនិយាយអំពីអតីតកាលដែលមិនអាចផ្លាស់ប្ដូរបាន ដូចជា «បើខ្ញុំបានរៀនខ្លាំង ខ្ញុំនឹងបានប្រឡងជាប់»។ If clause ប្រើ had + V3 (past participle) ហើយប្រយោគចម្បងប្រើ would have + V3។
If + S + had + V3, S + would have + V3
If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test.
បើខ្ញុំបានរៀនខ្លាំងជាង ខ្ញុំនឹងបានប្រឡងជាប់។
If she had left earlier, she would have caught the bus.
បើនាងចេញមុន នាងនឹងបានឡើងឡានក្រុងទាន់។

I wish + past tense បង្ហាញបំណងចង់បានអ្វីមួយដែលមិនពិតក្នុងពេលបច្ចុប្បន្ន។ I wish + had + V3 បង្ហាញការសោកស្ដាយអំពីអតីតកាល។ wish ប្រើជាមួយ were មិនមែន was ទេ ដូច second conditional ដែរ។
