Relative Adverbs
Relative adverbs అంటే where, when, why — ఇవి రెండు వాక్యాలను కలపడానికి వాడతారు. 'ఎక్కడ', 'ఎప్పుడు', 'ఎందుకు' అనే సమాచారం ఇస్తూ ఒక noun ను వివరిస్తాయి. Relative pronouns (who, which, that) లాగానే ఇవి కూడా వాక్యాలను అనుసంధానం చేస్తాయి.
where — స్థలం చెప్పడం
'where' ను స్థలాన్ని వివరించే clause ని జోడించడానికి వాడతారు. 'ఎక్కడ' అనే అర్థం వస్తుంది.
This is the park where we play.
ఇది మనం ఆడే పార్క్.
I know a place where we can eat.
మనం తినగలిగే ఒక చోటు నాకు తెలుసు.
The school where I study is big.
నేను చదివే స్కూల్ పెద్దది.
This is the room where I sleep.
ఇది నేను నిద్రపోయే గది.
when — సమయం చెప్పడం
'when' ను సమయాన్ని వివరించే clause ని జోడించడానికి వాడతారు. 'ఎప్పుడు' అనే అర్థం వస్తుంది.
I remember the day when we met.
మనం కలుసుకున్న రోజు నాకు గుర్తుంది.
Summer is the time when we swim.
వేసవి మనం ఈత కొట్టే సమయం.
Monday is the day when we have art class.
సోమవారం మాకు ఆర్ట్ క్లాస్ ఉండే రోజు.
Night is the time when stars appear.
రాత్రి నక్షత్రాలు కనిపించే సమయం.
why — కారణం చెప్పడం
'why' ను కారణాన్ని వివరించే clause ని జోడించడానికి వాడతారు. 'ఎందుకు' అనే అర్థం వస్తుంది. 'the reason why' అనే నమూన తరచుగా వాడతారు.
That's the reason why I was late.
అందుకే నేను ఆలస్యంగా వచ్చాను.
I know why she is happy.
ఆమె ఎందుకు సంతోషంగా ఉందో నాకు తెలుసు.
Tell me the reason why you are crying.
నువ్వు ఎందుకు ఏడుస్తున్నావో చెప్పు.
That's why I like this book.
అందుకే నాకు ఈ పుస్తకం ఇష్టం.
తెలుగుతో పోలిక
- ●తెలుగులో 'నేను ఆడే పార్క్' అంటే 'the park where I play'. తెలుగులో '-ే' suffix తో విశేషణ clause చేస్తారు. ఇంగ్లీష్లో where/when/why అనే ప్రత్యేక పదాలు వాడతారు. భావం ఒకటే, కానీ నిర్మాణం వేరుగా ఉంటుంది.
