Reported Speech
Reported speech అంటే ఎవరైనా చెప్పిన మాటలను మరొకరికి తెలియజేయడం. Direct speech (ప్రత్యక్ష వాక్యం) లో అసలు మాటలు quotes లో ఉంటాయి. Reported speech లో quotes తీసేసి, tense ను ఒక స్థాయి వెనక్కి మారుస్తారు. ఈ పాఠంలో ఈ మార్పులు నేర్చుకుందాం!
Tense మార్పు (Tense Shift)
Reported speech లో tense ఒక స్థాయి వెనక్కి మారుతుంది. Present → Past, Past → Past Perfect, Will → Would.
He said, "I am happy." → He said that he was happy.
అతను "నేను సంతోషంగా ఉన్నాను" అని చెప్పాడు. → అతను సంతోషంగా ఉన్నానని చెప్పాడు.
She said, "I like cats." → She said that she liked cats.
ఆమె "నాకు పిల్లులు ఇష్టం" అని చెప్పింది. → ఆమెకు పిల్లులు ఇష్టమని చెప్పింది.
He said, "I will come." → He said that he would come.
అతను "నేను వస్తాను" అని చెప్పాడు. → అతను వస్తానని చెప్పాడు.
She said, "I went home." → She said that she had gone home.
ఆమె "నేను ఇంటికి వెళ్ళాను" అని చెప్పింది. → ఆమె ఇంటికి వెళ్ళానని చెప్పింది.
సర్వనామం & సమయ పదాల మార్పు
Reported speech లో I → he/she, today → that day, here → there, now → then వంటి మార్పులు జరుగుతాయి.
"I am here now." → He said he was there then.
"నేను ఇప్పుడు ఇక్కడ ఉన్నాను." → అతను అప్పుడు అక్కడ ఉన్నానని చెప్పాడు.
"I will do it today." → She said she would do it that day.
"నేను ఈ రోజు చేస్తాను." → ఆమె ఆ రోజు చేస్తానని చెప్పింది.
"This is my book." → He said that was his book.
"ఇది నా పుస్తకం." → అది తన పుస్తకమని అతను చెప్పాడు.
"We came yesterday." → They said they had come the day before.
"మేము నిన్న వచ్చాము." → వాళ్ళు ముందు రోజు వచ్చామని చెప్పారు.
ప్రశ్నల Reported Speech
ప్రశ్నలను report చేసేటప్పుడు question order నుండి statement order కి మారుతుంది. 'asked if/whether' (yes/no ప్రశ్నలకు) లేదా 'asked + wh-word' వాడతారు.
"Are you happy?" → She asked if I was happy.
"నువ్వు సంతోషంగా ఉన్నావా?" → ఆమె నేను సంతోషంగా ఉన్నానా అని అడిగింది.
"Where do you live?" → He asked where I lived.
"నువ్వు ఎక్కడ ఉంటావు?" → అతను నేను ఎక్కడ ఉంటానని అడిగాడు.
"Did you eat?" → She asked if I had eaten.
"నువ్వు తిన్నావా?" → ఆమె నేను తిన్నానా అని అడిగింది.
"What time is it?" → He asked what time it was.
"ఎంత సమయమైంది?" → ఎంత సమయమైందని అతను అడిగాడు.
తెలుగుతో పోలిక
- ●తెలుగులో reported speech చాలా సులువు — 'అని చెప్పాడు' / 'అని అడిగాడు' చేర్చితే సరిపోతుంది, tense మారదు. కానీ ఇంగ్లీష్లో tense shift, pronoun change, time expression change — ఈ మూడు మార్పులు చేయాలి.
Common Mistakes
He said that he is happy.
He said that he was happy.
Reported speech లో tense shift అవసరం: 'is' → 'was'.
She asked where do I live.
She asked where I lived.
Reported question లో question order (do I) కాదు, statement order (I lived) వాడాలి.
