Conditional Sentences (शर्तवाचक वाक्य) 'If' (अगर/यदि) से शुरू होते हैं और शर्त-परिणाम का संबंध दर्शाते हैं। 'If it rains, I will stay home' (अगर बारिश होगी, तो मैं घर रहूँगा)। अंग्रेज़ी में मुख्य रूप से Zero, First और Second Conditional होते हैं।
Zero Conditional: सामान्य सत्य
If + Simple Present, Simple Present। सदा सत्य (general truths) के लिए।
If you heat water, it boils.
अगर पानी गर्म करो, तो उबलता है।
If you mix red and blue, you get purple.
अगर लाल और नीला मिलाओ, तो बैंगनी बनता है।
If it rains, the roads get wet.
अगर बारिश होती है, तो सड़कें गीली हो जाती हैं।
First Conditional: संभावित भविष्य
If + Simple Present, will + मूल क्रिया। भविष्य में संभावित स्थिति के लिए।
If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.
अगर कल बारिश होगी, तो मैं घर रहूँगा।
If you study hard, you will pass the exam.
अगर तुम मेहनत करोगे, तो परीक्षा पास करोगे।
If she calls, I will tell her.
अगर वह फ़ोन करेगी, तो मैं उसे बता दूँगा।
If we hurry, we won't be late.
अगर हम जल्दी करें, तो देर नहीं होगी।
If-clause में will नहीं आता: If it will rain ❌ → If it rains ✅
Second Conditional: काल्पनिक स्थिति
If + Simple Past, would + मूल क्रिया। वर्तमान/भविष्य की ऐसी स्थिति जो शायद नहीं होगी।
If I had a car, I would drive to Shimla.
अगर मेरे पास कार होती, तो मैं शिमला ड्राइव करके जाता।
If I were rich, I would travel the world.
अगर मैं अमीर होता, तो दुनिया घूमता।
If she spoke English, she would get the job.
अगर वह अंग्रेज़ी बोलती, तो उसे नौकरी मिलती।
If I won the lottery, I would buy a house.
अगर मैं लॉटरी जीतता, तो घर ख़रीदता।
'If I were...' (was नहीं) — Second Conditional में were सभी कर्ताओं के साथ प्रयोग होता है।
unless = if...not
'unless' = 'if...not' — 'जब तक...नहीं'।
Unless you study, you won't pass.
जब तक तुम पढ़ोगे नहीं, पास नहीं होगे।
I won't go unless you come with me.
जब तक तुम मेरे साथ नहीं चलोगे, मैं नहीं जाऊँगा।
हिन्दी और अंग्रेज़ी में अंतर
- ●हिंदी में 'अगर...तो' और 'अगर...होता तो...होता' अंग्रेज़ी के First और Second Conditional से मेल खाते हैं।
- ●Second Conditional में हिंदी और अंग्रेज़ी दोनों भूतकाल रूप का प्रयोग करती हैं काल्पनिक स्थिति के लिए।
Common Mistakes
If it will rain, I will stay home.
If it rains, I will stay home.
If-clause में 'will' नहीं आता — Simple Present प्रयोग करें।
If I was you, I would study more.
If I were you, I would study more.
Second Conditional में 'were' प्रयोग होता है, 'was' नहीं।
