Three Uses of Infinitives
Infinitive (to + क्रिया) के तीन मुख्य उपयोग हैं: (1) संज्ञा के रूप में — 'To learn English is important', (2) विशेषण के रूप में — 'I need something to eat', (3) क्रियाविशेषण के रूप में — 'I went to the market to buy vegetables'। इन तीनों उपयोगों को समझना उन्नत अंग्रेज़ी के लिए ज़रूरी है।
संज्ञा के रूप में (Nominal Infinitive)
Infinitive वाक्य में कर्ता या कर्म की तरह काम करता है।
To travel is exciting.
यात्रा करना रोमांचक है। (कर्ता)
I want to learn Hindi.
मैं हिंदी सीखना चाहता हूँ। (कर्म)
It is important to study hard.
मेहनत से पढ़ना ज़रूरी है। (It + to...)
My dream is to become a doctor.
मेरा सपना डॉक्टर बनना है। (पूरक)
विशेषण के रूप में (Adjectival Infinitive)
Infinitive किसी संज्ञा के बारे में अतिरिक्त जानकारी देता है।
I need something to eat.
मुझे खाने के लिए कुछ चाहिए।
She has a lot of work to do.
उसके पास बहुत काम है करने के लिए।
Is there any water to drink?
क्या पीने के लिए पानी है?
He was the first person to arrive.
वह पहुँचने वाला पहला व्यक्ति था।
क्रियाविशेषण के रूप में (Adverbial Infinitive)
Infinitive क्रिया का उद्देश्य (purpose) या कारण बताता है — 'क्यों / किसलिए'।
I went to the market to buy fruit.
मैं फल ख़रीदने के लिए बाज़ार गया।
She studies hard to pass the exam.
वह परीक्षा पास करने के लिए मेहनत करती है।
He saved money to buy a bike.
उसने बाइक ख़रीदने के लिए पैसे बचाए।
I'm happy to meet you.
मैं तुमसे मिलकर ख़ुश हूँ। (कारण)
'in order to' = to — अधिक औपचारिक: He studied hard in order to pass.
हिन्दी और अंग्रेज़ी में अंतर
- ●हिंदी में '-ना' (सीखना, जाना) और '-ने के लिए' (खाने के लिए, पढ़ने के लिए) अंग्रेज़ी के infinitive (to + क्रिया) से मेल खाते हैं।
- ●हिंदी में एक ही '-ना' रूप तीनों उपयोगों में काम करता है।
Common Mistakes
I want learn English.
I want to learn English.
want + to + क्रिया: 'to' ज़रूरी है।
I have nothing for eat.
I have nothing to eat.
'कुछ खाने को' = something/nothing to eat (for eat नहीं)।
