Numbers & Counting
अंग्रेज़ी में संख्याओं (Numbers) का सही उपयोग बहुत ज़रूरी है — ख़रीदारी, समय, तारीख, फ़ोन नंबर सब जगह काम आते हैं। Cardinal numbers (one, two, three) गिनती के लिए और Ordinal numbers (first, second, third) क्रम बताने के लिए होती हैं।
Cardinal Numbers: 1-100
Cardinal numbers गिनती और मात्रा बताते हैं।
I have two brothers.
मेरे दो भाई हैं।
There are thirty students in my class.
मेरी कक्षा में तीस विद्यार्थी हैं।
This book costs five hundred rupees.
इस किताब की क़ीमत पाँच सौ रुपये है।
She is twenty-one years old.
वह इक्कीस साल की है।

Ordinal Numbers: पहला, दूसरा, तीसरा...
Ordinal numbers क्रम (order) बताते हैं। तारीख और मंज़िल में प्रयोग होते हैं।
January is the first month.
जनवरी पहला महीना है।
I live on the third floor.
मैं तीसरी मंज़िल पर रहता हूँ।
She came second in the race.
वह दौड़ में दूसरे स्थान पर आई।
Today is the 15th of August.
आज 15 अगस्त है।

बड़ी संख्याएँ और पैसे
hundred (सौ), thousand (हज़ार), lakh/hundred thousand, crore/ten million — भारतीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रणाली।
The phone costs fifteen thousand rupees.
फ़ोन की क़ीमत पंद्रह हज़ार रुपये है।
The population is one point four billion.
जनसंख्या 1.4 अरब है।
I saved two thousand five hundred rupees.
मैंने ढाई हज़ार रुपये बचाए।
भारतीय: 1,00,000 = one lakh। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय: 100,000 = one hundred thousand।

साढ़े तीन बजे हैं।

हिन्दी और अंग्रेज़ी में अंतर
- ●हिंदी और अंग्रेज़ी में 11-19 की संख्याएँ अनियमित हैं (eleven/ग्यारह, twelve/बारह)।
- ●भारत में lakh (लाख) और crore (करोड़) प्रणाली प्रयोग होती है, जबकि अंग्रेज़ी में million/billion।
- ●बड़ी संख्याओं में अल्पविराम की जगह भी अलग होती है।
Common Mistakes
She is in the three floor.
She is on the third floor.
मंज़िल (floor) के लिए ordinal: third floor, 'three floor' नहीं।
Today is March three.
Today is March third. / Today is the 3rd of March.
तारीख में ordinal number प्रयोग होता है: third, 'three' नहीं।
