"ပိုကြီးတယ်"၊ "အကြီးဆုံး" စသည်ဖြင့် နှိုင်းယှဉ်တဲ့အခါ comparatives နှင့် superlatives သုံးပါတယ်။ မြန်မာဘာသာမှာ "ပို..." နှင့် "အ...ဆုံး" ဆိုပြီး သုံးပါတယ်။ အင်္ဂလိပ်မှာ -er/-est ထည့်ခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် more/most သုံးခြင်း နှစ်မျိုးရှိပါတယ်။ ဒီသင်ခန်းစာမှာ comparative (နှိုင်းယှဉ်ပုံ)၊ superlative (အ...ဆုံး)၊ irregular forms (မမှန်သောပုံစံ)၊ as...as (တူညီခြင်း)၊ less/least (ပိုနည်းခြင်း) နှင့် အသုံးနှုန်းအားလုံးကို အသေးစိတ် လေ့လာကြပါစို့။
Comparative — နှိုင်းယှဉ်ခြင်း (-er / more)
နှစ်ခုကို နှိုင်းယှဉ်တဲ့အခါ comparative သုံးပါတယ်။ စာလုံးတိုတဲ့ adjective (1-2 syllable) မှာ -er ထည့်ပြီး စာလုံးရှည်တဲ့ adjective (3+ syllable) မှာ more ထည့်ပါတယ်။ "than" ကို နှိုင်းယှဉ်ရာ object ရှေ့မှာ ထားပါတယ်။ spelling ပြောင်းလဲပုံကို သတိထားပါ — big → bigger (ဗျည်းထပ်ရေး)၊ happy → happier (y → ier)။

"than" ကို မေ့မသွားပါနဲ့။ "He is taller me" မဟုတ်ပါ၊ "He is taller than me" ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ "more taller" ဟု more နှင့် -er ကို ပူးတွဲ မသုံးပါနဲ့။
Superlative — အ...ဆုံး (-est / most)
သုံးခုနှင့်အထက်ထဲက အကောင်းဆုံး/အကြီးဆုံး ကို ပြောတဲ့အခါ superlative သုံးပါတယ်။ စာလုံးတိုမှာ -est ထည့်ပြီး စာလုံးရှည်မှာ most ထည့်ပါတယ်။ superlative ရှေ့မှာ "the" ထည့်ရပါတယ်။ "the tallest" (အရှည်ဆုံး)၊ "the most beautiful" (အလှဆုံး)။

superlative ရှေ့မှာ "the" ကို ထည့်ရပါတယ်။ "She is tallest" မဟုတ်ပါ၊ "She is the tallest" ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ "the" ကို မမေ့ပါနဲ့။
Irregular Comparatives — မမှန်သောပုံစံများ
adjective အချို့က -er/-est ပုံစံအတိုင်း မပြောင်းပါဘူး။ သီးခြားအနေနဲ့ မှတ်ထားရပါမယ်။ ဒီ irregular adjectives တွေက အသုံးအများဆုံးဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက် ကျက်မှတ်ထားသင့်ပါတယ်။ good → better → best, bad → worse → worst တွေကို အရင်ဆုံး မှတ်ပါ။

နှစ်ခုက အတူတူပါလို့ ပြောတဲ့အခါ "as + adjective + as" သုံးပါတယ်။ မတူဘူးဆိုရင် "not as...as" သုံးပါတယ်။ ဒီပုံစံမှာ adjective ကို ပုံစံမပြောင်းဘဲ (ပုံမှန်) ထားပါတယ်— -er မထည့်ပါ၊ more မထည့်ပါ။

less / least — ပိုနည်းခြင်း/အနည်းဆုံး
"more / most" ရဲ့ ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်ဖြစ်တဲ့ "less / least" ကို "ပိုနည်း / အနည်းဆုံး" ဆိုတဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်နဲ့ သုံးပါတယ်။ "less" ကို နှိုင်းယှဉ်ရာတွင်၊ "the least" ကို superlative ပုံစံတွင် သုံးပါတယ်။ ဒီပုံစံကို formal (တရားဝင်) စာရေးသားရာတွင် အသုံးများပါတယ်။

"less" ကို စာလုံးရှည်တဲ့ adjective (interesting, expensive, difficult) တွေနဲ့ သုံးပါတယ်။ စာလုံးတိုတဲ့ adjective (big, tall) တွေနဲ့ "less" ကို သုံးတာ ပုံမှန်မဟုတ်ပါ — "smaller" ဟု -er ပုံစံသုံးတာ ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။
Comparative ပုံစံအခြား — much/a lot/a little
comparative adjective ရှေ့မှာ "much"၊ "a lot"၊ "a little"၊ "slightly" တွေ ထည့်ပြီး ကွာခြားမှုရဲ့ ပမာဏကို ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။ "much bigger" = အရမ်းပိုကြီးတယ်။ "a little bigger" = နည်းနည်းပိုကြီးတယ်။ ဒီပုံစံက ဝါကျကို ပိုတိကျစေပါတယ်။
