गणनीय और अगणनीय संज्ञा
Countable & Uncountable Nouns
अंग्रेज़ी में संज्ञाएँ दो प्रकार की होती हैं: Countable (गणनीय — गिनी जा सकती हैं: a book, two books) और Uncountable (अगणनीय — गिनी नहीं जा सकतीं: water, rice, information)। यह अंतर articles (a/an/the), some/any, much/many के प्रयोग को प्रभावित करता है।
Countable Nouns — गणनीय
गिनी जा सकती हैं, एकवचन/बहुवचन दोनों रूप, a/an लग सकता है।
I have a book. / I have three books.
मेरे पास एक किताब है। / मेरे पास तीन किताबें हैं।
There is an apple on the table.
मेज़ पर एक सेब है।

Uncountable Nouns — अगणनीय
गिनी नहीं जा सकतीं, बहुवचन नहीं होता, a/an नहीं लगता।
Water is essential for life.
पानी जीवन के लिए आवश्यक है। (waters ❌)
I need some rice.
मुझे कुछ चावल चाहिए। (a rice ❌)
She gave me good advice.
उसने मुझे अच्छी सलाह दी। (advices ❌)
How much money do you have?
तुम्हारे पास कितने पैसे हैं? (many money ❌)

many/few vs much/little — कौन सा कहाँ?
many/few = गणनीय। much/little = अगणनीय। some/any = दोनों।

There are a few students. (गणनीय)

गिनने का तरीक़ा — a piece of, a glass of, a cup of
अगणनीय संज्ञा को गिनने के लिए मात्रा शब्द (quantifiers) प्रयोग होते हैं।

हिन्दी और अंग्रेज़ी में अंतर
- ●हिंदी में गणनीय/अगणनीय का अंतर उतना स्पष्ट नहीं — 'एक सलाह' हिंदी में सही है, लेकिन 'an advice' अंग्रेज़ी में ग़लत (a piece of advice)।
- ●हिंदी में 'समाचार' एकवचन/बहुवचन दोनों, अंग्रेज़ी में 'news' हमेशा एकवचन।
